Eggs were getting a bad rap for decades, but now it is being welcomed back with open arms, as well they should be. You can eat up to seven eggs a week without any issue and they have little to no effect on your blood cholesterol levels. Eggs are highly nutritious and low in calories, which make them a welcome addition to any diet. For one, eggs contain zinc, which boosts immunity and helps to keep away coughs and the common cold. They are also replete with vitamin A, lutein and zeaxanthin, which are essential for optimal eye health; they are also a source of omega-3 healthy fats.
Eggs are a huge source of protein and amino acids, which help the body to generate collagen, elastin and melanin, and are key to maintaining healthy skin. Vitamin A and D is also necessary for healing damaged skin and for the regeneration of new skin cells. Eggs are also a wonderful source of iron, which promotes the development of red blood cells, and contains selenium, which can help prevent damage to the skin.
Here are six easy and egg-cellent ways to achieve glowing and radiant skin naturally:
Eat A Boiled Egg
Or you could enjoy it half-boiled, scrambled, sunny-side-up or as an omelette with cheese or sauteed vegetables! Consume two eggs a day and you will be boosting your daily vitamin A, D, and protein intake, all of which are important for maintaining healthy, glowing and youthful-looking skin (and hair, too). Just remember to choose pasteurised eggs if you are planning to eat them raw or undercooked.
Tighten Up Pores
Tired of those open pores that mar an otherwise smooth visage? An at-home, egg-white face mask can be an effective pore tightener. Simply separate the egg white from the yolk (you can use the yolk for cooking and baking) and apply to clean skin. Rinse off with warm water when the egg white is dry.
If the smell of raw egg white puts you off, try adding some lemon juice and honey to the mix. Whisk the combined ingredients until it becomes a foam. Apply to a clean, dry face, but avoid the eye area. Leave till the mask is dry or for about half an hour, whichever comes first. Then rinse off with warm water. End with a quick splash of cold water and pat dry. This recipe will not only help to shrink your pores but also have a brightening effect on your skin.
Balance Out Oily Skin
If you are prone to oily skin, a simple and affordable remedy is an egg-white and lemon juice mask. Whisk together the egg white of one egg with a few drops of fresh lemon juice. Again, make sure to clean your face and then apply the mixture onto a slightly damp face, and massage gently onto skin with a circular motion. Leave on till the mask hardens and dries (which usually takes about 15 minutes), then rinse off completely with warm water.
You can also fashion yourself an exfoliating face scrub using a whole egg and some oatmeal. Combine the two ingredients well and apply onto cleansed skin. Lightly rub mixture onto face for a couple of minutes and wash off well. This may be done twice a week for optimal effect.
Hydrate Dry Skin
If oily skin is not your problem and keeping skin plump and hydrated is more of an issue, then you’ll be needing a mask that hydrates. For dry skin, you will be using the yolk of one egg (make an egg-white omelette with the remnants). Combine with a couple of drops of sweet almond oil (which is purported to prevent fine lines and wrinkles) and roughly a tablespoon of honey. Apply the mask to a clean visage for about 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. This is a nourishing mask that leaves the skin smooth, dewy and hydrated.
Rejuvenate Dull Skin
If dull and dry skin has you down, get a tune-up with this natural body scrub. Boil up to four eggs; take the shells off and grind to a powder. Combine the powder with about one teaspoon of salt and double the amount of honey. Lightly rub the exfoliating scrub over your entire body and make sure to rinse it all off properly. Your skin will come out smooth and glowing after.
Don’t forget to enjoy the hard-boiled eggs—in a delightful caesar salad, perhaps.
Say Bye To Dark Circles
It is no fun waking up to puffy eyes. Banish dark circles and depuff those under-eye bags quickly with this simple egg-white treatment. It is literally all that you require. Dip a clean brush into the egg white and gently brush it around the eye area. The whites have an astringent effect that helps to depuff and tighten the skin around your eyes. When the egg white dries, rinse off first with warm water, and then follow that with a splash of cold water.
